There are many different ways to make money online, but it can be difficult to figure out which opportunities are actually legitimate and which are scams that will leave you disappointed and out of money. The good news is that there are plenty of completely legitimate ways to earn money online without spending any upfront costs or making any big investment. Here are 10 real ways to earn money online without ever leaving your couch.

1) Start A Blog

A popular and lucrative way to earn money online is through blogging and making affiliate links, which requires you to promote someone else’s products or services on a regular basis. The idea is that you write posts about things like fashion or photography, then link to related products on Amazon using affiliate links in those posts (see example above). You might also write directly about products you’re selling yourself, which is known as an informational product.

2) Copywriting/Freelance Writing

There are thousands of websites out there that will pay you for writing. Freelance writing is a great way to start earning side income while establishing yourself as an expert in a particular field. For example, right now I’m working on content and videos for several different websites. And, I do freelance copywriting on Fiverr, which isn’t exactly huge money-makers, but helps keep gas in my car!

3) Affiliate Marketing

One of my favorite sites is e-commerce giant Amazon. They have a feature called an Affiliate Program, which allows you to put links on your site that send users off to a product page on Amazon and once they buy, you get paid a small commission for it.

4) YouTube

In addition to advertising revenue, you can also monetize a YouTube channel through sponsorships. You’ll need a significant following before companies will be willing to sponsor you, but it’s also an excellent way to promote your personal brand and get paid for that promotion. Or, if you have a really large following, businesses may pay you simply for getting them exposure on your channel or website.

5) Teaching Music Lessons

There’s a huge market for private music lessons. If you know how to play an instrument, open up your schedule, advertise yourself and start teaching other people what you know. Sites like Busy Bee Musicians and Musicians Wanted offer opportunities in a wide range of musical instruments from piano and guitar, to brass instruments, woodwinds and beyond; save some time by registering with multiple sites as well. Be sure to review their guidelines before posting about yourself!

6) Selling on Amazon

Make extra cash on Amazon’s Mechanical Turk by performing simple tasks (like writing product descriptions) for small fees. Just don’t expect to build a sustainable income—and definitely don’t quit your day job. Mechanical Turk is only suited for certain tasks and isn’t a good way to generate a full-time income.

7) Data Entry Jobs

One of my favorite ways to make some cash is through data entry jobs! There are tons of legitimate companies out there that hire virtual assistants to work from home doing many different things such as data entry, proofreading, content writing and more. If you have a computer and internet connection, then you can get started making extra money right away!

8) Specializing in One Thing and Becoming an Expert at it

Specialization is a great way to become an expert in something, which you can use as a vehicle for earning money on the side. This will take a lot of time and effort, but it’s certainly possible. For example, if you have quality knitting skills, consider setting up an Etsy store where you sell knitting products that only have one specific design, such as hats with sunflowers on them.

9) Surveys And Trials

Surveys and trials take all kinds of shapes and sizes, but what they have in common is that you test products before consumers do. This allows you to send some extra cash into your pocket in exchange for honest feedback about products that are still in development or haven’t reached store shelves yet. Surveys might ask how you feel about a potential new soda flavor, for example, or if you’d use a fitness app if it meant giving up TV for an hour a day or two each week.

10) Running An E-Commerce Business

In order to run an e-commerce business, you need a product or service and an audience that is interested in that product or service. Once you’ve established what your products and services will be, you’ll want to come up with a name for your business and make sure you have some sort of logo created (or commissioned). From there, it’s all about building traffic so people know about your business!
