3 Simple Steps to Making Money from Android Apps

Apps are all the rage these days, and with great reason! If you want to learn how to make money by creating your own Android apps, there are a few things you need to know. Today we’re going to talk about three simple steps that will help you succeed. Here’s how it goes...

Step 1: Research Your Target Audience

Before you start writing code, it’s crucial that you research your target audience. This is crucial because it allows you to create products that people actually want and need—which will lead to higher profits and happier customers. Spend time researching what your ideal customer looks like and what problems they are facing—this way, when you create your app, it will be more likely to solve their problems. The more specific you are with your niche, while also staying broad enough that people find value in it (instead of feeling like an outsider), the more likely your app is going to be a hit.

Step 2: Pick a Platform

iOS or Android? If you’re just starting out, or if you only have a limited amount of time each day, focusing on a single platform might be your best bet. But if you want to make more money long-term and build apps for both platforms at once, it might be worth it for you. For many developers, making money in Google Play has become increasingly difficult as companies now promote their apps directly through Facebook and Twitter—so try your luck with iOS first. Also keep in mind that iOS users spend more than twice as much money on in-app purchases as Android users.

Step 3: Build an App and Advertise

Now that you’ve decided on a niche, researched keywords and done some competitor analysis, it’s time to create your app. There are two basic approaches here: build an app yourself or hire someone else to do it for you. If you want to go solo, there are plenty of tools out there that let you build apps without any coding experience. Here's how we built our first app—my delivery service locator tool—in four hours flat using AppMakr. (You can watch me build it in a time-lapse video if you'd like.) If coding isn't your thing but design is, consider hiring a freelance designer through sites like Elance or Odesk.
